Watch: ‘No need for that‘ – Liam Livingstone dances down track, holes out to mid-on in England defeat
Watch: Liam Livingstone holed out during England’s slide to 206-9 as they lost the ODI series to the West Indies. On air, Curtly Ambrose said that there was “no need for” the shot.
Liam Livingstone had played his part in partially rescuing England before his demise. England slid to 49-5 inside the first 10 overs after a rain delay, with right-arm quick Matthew Forde taking the first three to fall.
Ben Duckett and Livingstone then put on a half-century stand for the sixth wicket, but when Duckett fell for 71, England were 137-6 and looking to Livingstone to guide them to a competitive total.
Two overs later, with 12 overs left in the innings, Livingstone came down the track and attempted to smash seamer Romario Shepherd for six. He only succeeded in skewing the ball up in the air, where Sherfane Rutherford at mid-on claimed a simple catch.
“There was no need for that,” said Ambrose. “Probably got a little frustrated.”
Livingstone made 45 in 56 balls, and it was left to the tail to see out the rest of the 40 overs. There were some nerves during the West Indies’ chase, but a half-century from Keacy Carty at No.3 and scores in the forties from Alick Athanaze and Romario Shepherd saw them to a 2-1 win.
