India will host a five-match Test series for the first time since the 2016/17 five-match series against England. The first of those games will be played in Hyderabad from January 25 to 29. Visakhapatnam (February 2 to 6), Rajkot (February 15 to 19), Ranchi (February 23 to 27), and Dharamsala (March 7 to 11) will host the other four Test matches.
Both teams suffered major blows ahead of the series in terms of personnel, with Virat Kohli and Harry Brook excusing themselves for personal reasons. India have named Rajat Patidar as Kohli’s replacement, while Dan Lawrence has replaced Brook for England.
England lost their last Test series in India 1-3, but will be raring to go under the leadership of Ben Stokes and turn things around. They have named their XI for the first Test, including only one fast bowler in Mark Wood.
India coach Rahul Dravid meanwhile, confirmed that KL Rahul, who kept wicket in India’s last Test series against South Africa, will play as a pure batter in this one given the duration of the series.
