Highlights: Head, Klaasen blitzkriegs help SRH edge past RCB in Chinnaswamy run-fest

Travis Head (L) celebrates his century, while Heinrich Klaasen (R) plays a shot during the IPL 2024 match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bengaluru at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on April 15.

Watch highlights RCB vs SRH: Travis Head’s blazing ton, aided by Heinrich Klaasen’s quickfire fifty, powered Sunrisers Hyderabad to a 25-run win against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on a night (April 15) that produced the highest IPL total and the highest match aggregate in the T20 format.

Asked to bat first, Hyderabad were merciless right from the start, going past their previous record this season to post 287-3, the highest total in the IPL.

Travis Head led the batting assault with his 41-ball 102, sending a prior warning to teams ahead of the T20 World Cup in June. He had also scored 62 off 24 when Hyderabad made 277-3 against Mumbai on March 27.

With Abhishek Sharma (34 off 22), he put up 76 in the powerplay, the third time Hyderabad went past 70 during that phase this season. Head blazed his way to his fifty off 20 balls. He hit four sixes across the fifth and sixth overs as RCB debutant Lockie Ferguson went for 18 and Yash Dayal conceded 20. Head’s second fifty came off in 19 balls as he brought up his career-best score in the format in the 12th over.

Head belted eight sixes and was well supported by Klassen (67 off 31 balls), who hit seven of them in a total of 22 sixes – another IPL record. The other contributors to SRH’s mammoth total were Aiden Markram (32 not out off 17) and Abdul Samad (37 not out off 10).

Chasing the insurmountable total, RCB gave a spirited reply too as they finished on 262-7. Dinesh Karthik top-scored with 83 off 35 balls, including a gigantic 108m six, the longest this season so far.

The Bengaluru belter witnessed a match aggregate of 549 runs, the highest in all T20 cricket.
